Courtney Adamo on Creative Motherhood Rooted in Nature and Presence

We’re delighted to feature Courtney Adamo — writer, creative and mother of five — as our latest Verse Mother. From her early days in London to her current life in Byron Bay, Courtney has inspired women around the world through her warm, thoughtful voice on family, home, and intentional living. We loved hearing her reflections on motherhood, values, and finding creativity in the everyday.

1. Did you always know you wanted to become a mother?
I did! Even as a child I had strong maternal instincts. I’ve always loved babies and children and knew from a young age that I wanted to be a mother.

2. What brings you joy when you are having a bad day?
Nature. Walking barefoot in the grass, sitting in the sun, hugging a tree — it’s all so healing. Also, having a cuddle with one of my kids helps too.

3. What are your favourite mid-week dinner treats?
We love a quick pasta dinner — often a one-pot wonder with fresh veggies and herbs. Or we’ll do tacos or nourish bowls that the kids can build themselves.

4. What are some items in your life you cannot live without?
A cup of tea in the morning. A daily walk. My journal. My camera. And the hugs from my kids.

5. How do you grow your creativity?
Travel, reading, writing, observing people, spending time in nature. I’m most creative when I slow down and make space for ideas to arrive.

6. What are some grocery items that are in your basket every single week?
Eggs, oats, berries, leafy greens, peanut butter, fresh bread, pasta, cheese, olive oil, and dark chocolate.

7. What has surprised you most about being a mother?
How much my children have taught me. I expected to be the teacher, but it turns out they are my greatest teachers.

8. What are your favourite indulgences?
Long baths with salts and oils, quiet time with a book, a good glass of wine, and beautiful bed linens.

9. How has your working life changed since becoming a mother?
I’ve become more efficient and more selective with how I spend my time. I choose work that aligns with my values and supports my family life.

10. Is there a moment or event that radically changed the way you saw the world?
Leaving London and travelling the world with our kids in 2015 opened our minds in so many ways. It shifted our view of what we value and how we want to live.

11. What is one thing you are loving right now?
Watching my teenagers come into their own. It’s fascinating and beautiful to witness their unfolding.

12. What are your most important values?
Kindness, presence, curiosity, simplicity, and gratitude.

13. How do you ground yourself in stressful times?
Nature, journaling, and breathwork. I’ve learned to listen to my body and take slow, conscious breaths to return to myself.
